The West Virginia Farm Bureau Mobile Science Lab Bus, a 46-foot fully equipped self-contained classroom on wheels, has been at Sand Hill Elementary School all this week.

Students in kindergarten through 5th grade are participating in agricultural-based lessons, labs, stations, activities and experiments that feature problem-solving and use scientific methods. Each lesson and activity have been tailored to meet the needs and interests of the students and aligns with county curriculum and West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) Content Learning Standards and Objectives (CSOs). Throughout the week, students are engaged in hands-on learning that provides fun and excitement during the process.

Without the incredible and amazing support from the community, the WV Mobile Ag Bus at Sand Hill Elementary School would not have been possible. The Sand Hill Cardinals appreciate the following for helping make this experience possible: Sand Hill Elementary Partner in Education MPLX, Bob Finnegan with Finnegan Farms, and Benton Hazlett and family who donated in memory of the late Fred Hazlett. He donated the land for Sand Hill Elementary School. Becky Ferrell who began working on this project four years ago and continues to integrate agricultural instruction at the school.

Ferrell along with Laura Kimmins, Darlene Murrin and Chelsea Hillberry have been the parent volunteers throughout Ag Bus Week. Lisa Ingram and Molly Poffenbarger from the Marshall County Extension Office have volunteered their time as well.

The students and staff are beyond excited and grateful for this opportunity.
